Alan says: "I live my life based on green principles as best as I can. I have travelled extensively within New Zealand and have seen many environmental and social issues first hand. I consider myself to be socially liberal, a pacifist, environmentalist and humanist.”
Alan joined the Green Party in 2001 and since then has stood as a candidate for Waimakariri. He has worked as an electronics technician and tour guide and, driven by a keen interest in environmental issues, he is now studying Environmental Management at Lincoln University.
He makes a point of keeping abreast of current affairs and is currently a member of the Forest and Bird Society and the Save Happy Valley Coalition. He also undertook volunteer work in 2004 for computer recycling.
Alan's interests relate to conservation, energy and waste minimisation. He is particualrly concerned with the issue of energy and waste regarding electronics and computer technology.
